TAXONOMIC REVISION OF THE NEOTROPICAL AND ANDEAN SPECIES OF THE GENUS POLYCESTA DEJEAN, 1833 WITH DESCRIPTION OF NEW SPECIES (COLEOPTERA: BUPRESTIDAE: POLYCESTINI)

A taxonomic revisión of the Neotropical and Andean species of the genus Polycesta Dejean, 1833 is
presented. Six new species, Polycesta (Nemaphorus) tamarugalis (Chile), P (s.s.) bahamensis (Bahamas),
P (Nemaphorus) decorata (Argentina), P (s.s.) cuprofasciata (México), P (s.s.) garcetei (Paraguay) and
P (s.s.) guanacastensis (Costa Rica) are described. Polycesta (Tularencia) cubae Chevrolat, 1838 and P.
(s.s.) fisheri Obenberger, 1936 are transferred to the subgenus Jamaiquesia Cobos. Polycesta (s.s.) excavata
Blanchard, 1846 is transferred to the subgenus Nemaphorus Solier and P (Tularensia) cortezii Thomson,
1878 is transferred to the subgenus Polycesta Dejean.
The synonymies of P. (s.s.) camposi Fisher, 1949 with P.(s.s.) bicolor Kerremans, 1897, P.fs.s.) brasiliensis
Gory & Laporte, 1838 with P.fs.s.) montezuma Gory & Laporte, 1838, P chevrolati Thomson with P. (s.s.)
porcata (Fabricius, 1775) and P excavata episcopalis Cobos, 1990 with P excavata Blanchard, 1846, are
stablished. A key for Polycesta subgenera and another key for Neotropical and Andean species are given.
