Abstract
Referring to a part of the written work of the great Brazilian educator Paulo Freire (1921-1997), we made an approach around concepts such as education and virtues inherent in the teaching practice. For our author, the main value and objective of education is the transformation of an unequal and unjust world into an ethical and deeply supportive one. Freire's pedagogy proposes a critical reading of the world, but one that does not generate hopelessness but rather allows us to see the resistances, the ways of getting ahead, and the permanent possibilities that human beings have to rebuild our lives. This process of immersion and understanding of his work has allowed us to identify contributions of his pedagogy that, we believe, are closely related to what we understand intercultural education should be. It includes a school model open to cultural diversity in which we can train citizens who are willing to change the world.
