Abstract
La dictadura militar chilena creó representaciones sociales en torno a la mujer en búsqueda del apoyo social, la legitimidad y la credibilidad de las cuales carecía. El plan de Reconstrucción Nacional impulsado por el régimen reforzó, a través de lo femenino, un modelo de sociedad tradicional y patriarcal sobre la cual definió la estructura social chilena transversalmente a toda la nación. En dicho contexto, el periódico El Mercurio de Santiago, relacionado con el sector político de derecha del país, jugó un rol intensificador y propagador del discurso, al mismo tiempo que consolidó las representaciones sociales femeninas como bastión de la reconstrucción Nacional.
