Abstract
¿No es extravagancia llamar “cartilla ” a una obra literaria? En el presente ensayo procuro explicar lo que dentro del texto de Mello justificaría el término “cartilla ”.
El libro Amazonia, patria del agua, escrito entre 1979 y 1987 enseña a aprender y a amar la Amazonia. Presenta aspectos fundamentales de la etimología, la onomástica, la semántica y la lexicografía del Río y también aquellos que conciernen a su relación con el hombre.
Esta cartilla, que verdaderamente enseña, apunta a las heridas y esboza el panorama de la destrucción de la patria del agua, pero es también un llamado a entenderla y —habiéndolo hecho- a establecer un compromiso con ella.
