Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo es propiciar una metodología no tradicional para la enseñanza de la disciplina, utilizando los textos literarios para motivar, conocer y aprehender el espacio geográfico con la mayor riqueza que entrega un enfoque interdisciplinario. En este artículo, se analiza la novela de mayor renombre de Hernán Rivera Letelier “La Reina Isabel cantaba rancheras", que muestra variados aspectos geográficos del desierto del norte chileno donde se desarrolla esta obra. Este texto permite asociar la literatura, geografía e historia de esta región del país al describir las actividades mineras en las oficinas salitreras que poblaron por largo tiempo el norte del país, con la variedad de personajes que se insertan en este espacio tan peculiar de la geografía e historia de Chile.
