Abstract
There are difficulties for the integration of environmental education in the school system. The educational system resists such integration because there is a mismatch between the rationality that governs it with respect to that which guides environmental education. Various diagnoses identify obstacles at the level of learning, management and links with the environment. It is concluded that the divergences between the liberal rationality of the educational system with the collective ethical rationality of environmental education, places the latter in the dilemma of being an inconsequential proposal or daring to be an actor engaged in the transformation of the school system.
