Towards a Pedagogy of Responsibility
Keywords:
Curriculum, Subjectivation, Socio-Critical Theory, Andean Worldview, ResponsibilityAbstract
In Latin America, we encounter at least two discourses that inhabit this territory regarding the curriculum: the modernity of the Western, Eurocentric, and Anglo-Saxon subject, and the ancestral Andean worldview, which resists the homogenizing process of the West. Within this tension, teaching and learning processes that resist the processes of subjectivation of the modern subject find convergence in socio-critical theories and the Andean worldview, constituting a complementary duality of emancipatory forms of resistance.
When approached from a socio-critical epistemological perspective, the curriculum becomes a device that places in tension the purposes of Western subjectivation, oriented toward a productive, reproductive, and disciplined subject. Added to this are the logics of knowledge/power arising from the transcendent potential implied by the Andean worldview. Thus, the modern subject is positioned to transcend from being a subject who lives in society toward becoming a human being who lives in community.
The pedagogy of responsibility is one possible path for transformative processes to occur. It represents the convergence of meanings and rationalities through which trajectories of knowledge/power can be traced, highlighting the responsibility of sharing life in community and in harmony with the cosmos.
