Abstract

Since 1990 Chile has been making various efforts to improve the quality and equity of the education system. Innovations and reforms have been diverse in order to achieve greater academic achievement in students, with the latter concentrating lately on improving initial teacher training. The studies support the importance of a good teacher to obtain quality learning and, in turn, recognize the new and demanding job demands. Challenges include being able to provide an educational response that is appropriate to the diversity of children. In this context, this article presents the main strengths and weaknesses presented by the last two accreditations of the Degree in Education and Pedagogy in Preschool Education with different mentions, from the Metropolitan University of Education UMCE and from this way to visualize advances in relation to the academic formation.
