Abstract

This paper aims to characterize learning experiences developed by pre-school in the process of “values”
formation of a nursery school, privately funded and another financed by public funds in Santiago. With that
purpose an exploratory qualitative case study was developed, which included observing classes with weekly
records, by two pre-school educators for six months in two kindergartens. The results indicate that working in
schools, whether of religious character or not, would not play a decisive role in the process of teaching and
learning of universal values, but it is rather a factor that depends on the professional value formation which
the educators may subscribe or not in classrooms and it is not necessarily related to the official position of the
school. It was found that in order to develop learning experiences in this sense, it is a sine qua non condition
that preschool educators would have been trained in nursery values and that they assign themselves the
importance of this social area.
