Abstract
This work makes a characterization of the relevance theory understood as one of the main proposals that emerge from the work of Grice. For this, it will be present some novelties with respect to the Gricean model as well as its own interpretation of the communicate understanding. Subsequently, some criticisms will be introduced with special emphasis on that which accuses the relevance theory of being reductionist. These will be evaluated critically from the theory itself.
