Abstract
This article describes the historical process of installation of technical-artisanal education from its first attempts with the Catholic Protectorate created in 1871 aimed at the poor children of Ecuador. The objective of this work is to review and analyze the context of Ecuador, specifically to observe the way that Gabriel García Moreno promoted reforms in the social and educational field, which he did based on the Catholic religion and supported by the mission of the Brothers of La Salle, who arrived in the country after signing the agreement with the Government of García Moreno. For this, we must understand that the leader's policy was to keep Ecuador united through religion and what better way to do it through education. Furthermore, in the country there were no artisans for professional work and this greatly influenced the acceptance of the idea of Antonio Flores Jijón who, under the position of Minister Plenipotentiary in said government, went to New York and observed the technical and educational management of the order of La Salle from the Catholic protectorates and tried to replicate it in Quito. In the end, the Lasallian work remained unfinished since after the murder of García Moreno because there was no financial support.
