REM - Revista Chilena de Educación Musical is a biannual publication of the Department of Music of the Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación, Chile. The journal publishes articles, documents and reviews in
Spanish, English and Portuguese. These are evaluated through double-blind review, carried out by external peers (see Editorial Policy). The Journal is financed exclusively by the Universitys own funds, and does not charge any type of fee to readers or authors. It is open access, and is part of the following indexes: Google Scholar, Dialnet.
OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE
The objective of the journal is to disseminate original academic works that promote discussion and dialogue on topics related to music education, related areas, or in relation to other areas and disciplines, belonging to the national, regional, Latin American and global environment.
THEMATIC COVERAGE
The Revista Chilena de Educación Musical - REM publishes original texts in different formats (Writing Guidelines), which address topics related to formal, non-formal and informal music education; learning processes and music teaching; relations between music education and philosophy, history, sociology and/or politics; music education, culture and diversity; music education, technology and sound media, among others. It also considers works from other areas that establish inter- or transdisciplinary dialogues with music education.
FREQUENCY
The journal publishes two issues per year, and maintains a continuous process of reception, review and selection of papers. The journal reserves the right to publish the papers that are finally accepted at the date it deems convenient, trying to give thematic consistency to each issue. Likewise, the journal contemplates within its policies the publication of special issues dedicated to deepen on a particular topic. This can be either by means of calls from the journal itself, or by receiving proposals from people outside the journal.
TYPES OF PAPERS
The journal publishes exclusively academic papers, in the form of articles, documents, and reviews, as defined below.
Articles
Articles must be unpublished texts, written about research, whose purpose is to make an original contribution, in order to expand the production of research knowledge in music education. The papers must be conceptually and formally rigorous in their approach to the problems addressed, paying special attention especially to bibliographical sources, theoretical references and methodological design. Along with this, they must also demonstrate compliance with ethical behavior standards, both in terms of working with people and/or participants in the research, as well as in terms of the writing of the article.
The articles must have an abstract of up to 250 words, followed by three to five key words directly related to the subject of the text. Both the abstract and the keywords should be presented in Spanish and English, respectively. The body of the article should be up to 6,000 words in length (excluding abstract, keywords and bibliographical references). In the case of the title, it is suggested not to exceed 15 words.
Documents
Correspond to unpublished texts, which develop novel perspectives on topics, milestones or events of particular importance on which they focus, and that are consistent with the thematic areas of the journal. Contributions are expected to follow rigorous scientific writing standards, without necessarily having to provide a theoretical and/or methodological framework, as in the case of articles. Papers may, for example, take the form of essays, critical studies, informative or analytical writings about different materials and sources (e.g., stories, experiences, interviews, or other oral sources). Likewise, the compilation of documentary sources, whether written texts, photographic, audio or video records, or the systematization of information, data and/or processes on topics related to the areas of work of the journal, among others.
The documents must have an abstract of no more than 250 words, followed by three to five key words directly related to the subject matter of the text. Both the abstract and the keywords should be presented in Spanish and English, respectively. The body of the text should be up to 3,000 words in length (excluding abstract and bibliographical references). In the case of the title, it is suggested not to exceed 15 words.
Reviews
The reviews correspond to texts constructed from the critical analysis of external contents, coming from documentary sources (books, magazines, articles, scores, theses, among others), audiovisual (phonograms and/or videos recorded in different formats), knowledge management activities (congresses, seminars, conferences, master classes, etc.) and others (concerts, festivals, book or record launches, etc.).
They may be up to 2,000 words in length. The review should state the title of the publication to which it corresponds, followed by the complete text to be published, and the complete data of the record to which the review refers. This type of text does not require an abstract, keywords, or additional bibliography to the publication to which it refers. Reviews will be solicited by the Editorial Committee from distinguished persons in the respective areas. Likewise, the Editorial Committee is open to receive external requests and proposals, which will be evaluated and eventually accepted for publication.
ABOUT THE EVALUATION
The evaluation of papers will be carried out according to the criteria defined by the journal (see paper evaluation criteria). The paper evaluation process will be carried out according to the following protocol: once the paper is submitted, the journals secretariat will send it to the Editorial Committee, which will carry out an initial evaluation of the paper. This will be focused on defining if the work corresponds to any of the thematic lines of the journal, and if it has the basic formal elements required. If approved by the Editorial Committee, the paper will be sent for evaluation by two external experts, in blind peer review mode, as stipulated in the evaluation criteria. If the judges; evaluation is concordant, the authors will be informed of the result. If there is no concordance between the judges, a third reviewer will be appointed, who will evaluate and give his/her final verdict regarding the acceptance or rejection of the work. Any other situation not specified in this text will be discussed within the Editorial Committee of the Journal and sanctioned by the Director.
Papers may be evaluated in three categories: Accepted, Accepted with modifications, or Rejected. The evaluation indicators and scores are detailed in the Paper Evaluation Guidelines.
ETHICS AND ORIGINALITY
Authors must sign and attach the Declaration of Originality. Likewise, it will be the responsibility of each author to ensure that his/her work does not violate any of the ethical rules of the Journal (see Code of Ethics and Good Practices).
PLAGIARISM POLICY
Authors are responsible for ensuring originality. However, all available means and tools will be used to verify, including the use of online anti-plagiarism programs. If plagiarism is verified, the paper will be rejected, the authors will be informed, and then the application will be removed from the platform. The Journal also reserves the right to inform the corresponding authorities and/or take legal action if the situation warrants it.
