Abstract
This ongoing study aims to assess the impact of implementing a continuing education course in astronomy—focused on the Sun–Earth–Moon system—on the disciplinary knowledge of a group of 15 primary school teachers. The research analyzes entry and exit tickets completed during lessons addressing topics such as day and night, the seasons, Moon phases, eclipses, scales, motions, and the apparent movement of the sky. Each ticket includes open-ended questions related to the topic covered and is evaluated using specifically designed rubrics. Responses collected at the beginning and end of each session are compared to identify potential changes in understanding. Additionally, a specific task on the topics of seasons and Moon phases is examined to complement the analysis. Preliminary findings indicate a noticeable improvement in learning outcomes, with a 12.8% increase in understanding of Moon phases and an overall 87% improvement in the entry–exit ticket results. These initial results suggest that targeted professional development in astronomy can effectively enhance teachers’ conceptual understanding of fundamental Earth–Space Science phenomena, contributing to stronger disciplinary foundations in science education.
