Abstract
Es sabido que El Quijote funda la novela moderna. El problema que plantea la presente ponencia es, si la novela ha de ser definida como “la narración de mitos degradados”, o bien, como realidad que, por su estructura abierta, aspira al mito. Las preguntas que esta tesis plantea son: ¿qué es la realidad en el Quijote y cómo es? ¿qué es el mito y cuál su disposición interna para bajar y fecundar la realidad? Ciertamente, tal presentación compromete al lenguaje que oscilará entre lo alto de la epopeya y lo bajo de la realidad, la concepción de mundo de la época y la oscilación entre novela de caballerías y novela moderna.
