Abstract

This article analyzes Lucien Febvre’s Erasmus in a context of intellectual biography. The Erasmus of the French historian has the peculiarity that it was not "elaborated" directly, but is rather found in the work dedicated to the intellectual biography of other historical figures: Martin Luther (1928) and François Rabelais (1942). It is established that Febvre’s Erasmus is constructed under two discursive antagonistic lines: the opposition to Luther and the resemblance to Rabelais.
