Abstract
Se introduce este artículo con un somero vistazo al desarrollo y evolución de la narrativa en Chile y sus conclusiones se aplican al análisis de La Reina Isabel cantaba rancheras de Hernán Rivera Letelier (1994).
Esta obra gira en tomo a la vida de una oficina salitrera que está próxima a cerrarse y en la que se desarrolla la vida de mineros despojados de todo, incluso de la conciencia de sí mismos como seres humanos, sin la posibilidad de ejercer poder alguno y carentes de toda propiedad privada: ni trabajo, ni casa, ni familia, ni mujer les pueden pertenecer.
