Rede Latino-americana de Educação Musical – RELEM: história, ações e perspectivas para o futuro

Abstract

The purpose of this Panel is to present aspects related to the Latin American Music Education Network (Rede Latino-americana de Educação Musical) – RELEM, from the first ideas for its creation, during the XI Latin American Regional Conference on Music Education of ISME, in 2017, in Brazil, until today. The main objective of RELEM is to provide exchange of knowledge and experiences between researchers, teachers and music students interested in presenting, discussing, and reflecting on
issues related to music education, especially in Latin America. From 2019, when RELEM started to function effectively, several actions have been carried out and are part of the content of this Panel, which is divided into three parts. In the first part,
entitled La Red Latinoamericana de Educación Musical – RELEM: nacimiento y acontecimentos hasta aqui, (Latin American Music Education Network – RELEM: birth and events up to here), historical aspects of RELEM will be presented, offering an overview of the actions carried out since its creation. Conferences have been given by guests to deal with specific themes, as well as Dialogues, which bring together guests to, as a group, discuss themes that are relevant for music education. In addition to these actions, the publication of the RELEM Journal (Cadernos da RELEM) and the RELEM Newsletter (Boletim Informativo da RELEM) represent another set of actions carried out by RELEM, offering other spaces for the dissemination of activities and the
exchange of theoretical and practical experiences. The second part of the Panel, entitled Cadernos da RELEM/Cuadernos de la RELEM: Uma análise da produção textual publicada entre 2021 e 2023 (RELEM Journal: An analysis of the textual production published between 2021 and 2023), presents the proposal of this publication containing short texts that can deal with research, experience reports or theoretical discussions. Since 2020, the RELEM Journal is published every six months, with 5
editions available until the first half of 2023. In this part of the Panel, the Journal will be commented, bringing elements related to the authors and co-authors, the countries represented in the texts and the themes addressed in published content. The third part of this Panel is entitled Boletines Informativos de la RELEM: breve reseña y sus rescates (RELEM Newsletter: brief review and its rescues), presenting and discussing different contents that have been incorporated in the 17 bimonthly editions of the Newsletter. With different sections, the Newsletter provides a space for disclosing the activities of RELEM itself and of network members who wish to inform about actions carried out in different contexts, especially in Latin America. In particular, the section called Rescates (Rescues) will be discussed in this part of the Panel, due to its importance as sources of information on activities related to music education that have already taken place in different historical moments in Latin America. From the presentation of RELEM, its history and actions carried out, the RELEM Journal, as a periodical publication, and the RELEM Newsletter, informing and disseminating various activities, it is also possible to discuss what RELEM has represented for the area of music education in Latin America. Thus, considering what has already been done since the creation of RELEM, and what has been done until today, it is possible to discuss what can be improved and expanded for the future. These topics constitute
the main axes of discussion in this Panel.
