Abstract
Esta novela de Gabriel García Márquez, escrita en 1957, relata la historia de un Coronel que sobrevivió a la lejana guerra civil -aquella propiciada por el Coronel don Aureliano Buendía-, que espera desde hace quince años una carta.
La historia se desenvuelve en un pueblecito de Colombia, en el trópico mismo, donde la lluvia del invierno no cesa de caer. El año real en que transcurre la historia es 1956, pues se mencionan noticias de prensa sobre la nacionalización del canal de Suez dentro de la trama de la novela.
