Abstract

The description of Periploca otrebla n. sp. is presented. This species is very similar to Periploca
longipenis Landry, from the Galápagos Islands. However, both of them can be separated on the basis
of the male genital characters. The larvae of P. otrebla are folivorous, and they are leaf tiers on its
host: Acacia macracantha Willd. (Fabaceae). The known distribution for this new species is limited to
the Azapa valley, First Región of Chile. This is the first species of Periploca genus described from
Chile, and the third on from the Neotropic.
