The Brazilian political scene in the outsider epiphany of the Legião Urbana

Abstract

This brief study aims at exploring the representation of the Brazilian political-social scene of the 1980s, erected by Renato Russo in the lyrics of "Perfection" and "Which country is this?", which ironically present a critical view of the dystopias that eventually came together with the planned capital: Russo, as a creative subject, inflicts on his songs an intentionally complex load, a mixture of tensions lived in the city (Brasilia), human scourges, of existence itself and political-social indignation, constructing the lyrics as both passionalized form as figurativized forms, opening the fissures of a city / society project that runs up against an oscillating cultural heritage. We will add our voice to the voices of Paul Zumthor, Zygmud Bauman, Giorgio Agamben and Octavio Paz for a transtextual reading with the intention of identifying the boundaries of the fragmented subject and the crossed paths of its recomposition in the condensed time-space of arts.
