Abstract

A study, of experimental and exploratory character, consisted of applying and validating in a private high school in Santiago, the Methodology of Mental Modeling for Physics Learning, created by David Hestenes in the State University o f Arizona; in
combination with a digital laboratory which, thanks to for application of the software Data Studio, made it possible the data acquisition steps faster than with traditional resources, to develop the processes that the methodology considers. For a more successful and faster deployment of the Mental Modeling Methodology, the Modellus software was added as a
classroom resource, to test the hypothesis that, in its animation-building function, it would allow the student to verify the mathematical formulation of his models. The results shown that indeed, students who used Modellus obtained better results and in smaller time.
