Abstract

The following work aims to problematize the concept of discipline and individualization from the theoretical framework of Michel Foucault. For the philosopher, discipline is a technology of micro-power and that exceeds the dimension of punishment. Its main function is the production of multiple individualization processes. Here, the school building acts as a support and operator of such prosecution, mainly through the normalizing sanction. In the particular case of Latin America, the public school has been built as a complex political unit, whose main objective is to correct, direct and model complex processes of individualization, within the framework of local biopowers and governmental devices. Methodologically, this work has a qualitative analytical approach, where the research inputs emerge from the most relevant concepts of "Watch and punish" associated with the discipline and its intertextual relationship with other thinkers.
