Abstract
This work describes the experience o f the Universidad de Santiago de Chile in the development of the Programa de Perfeccionamiento Fundamental supported by the Ministerio de Educación for secondary chemistry teachers. In this activity the teachers - students developed an innovative learning method. The analysis of this task plus additional information from the teachers - student, allows establish that they have conceptual difficulties on several contents; that the program of chemistry course have serious defects; and the need of changes of the approach of the PPF.
