Abstract
This paper presents the developments of an ongoing research, which examines the impact of some conceptual elements from the disciplinary horizon of psychology in the first public school system of Uruguay, traditionally called the "Varelian system".
The text explores the circumstances of the first educational debate and mainly the Uruguayan model of intuitive teaching of "object lessons", received and adopted from the Anglo-Saxon, mainly American, version that was prevalent during the 1877 - 1918 period.
