Abstract

This work corresponds to an ongoing investigation whose objective is to evaluate the scientific and didactic suitability of the Astronomy content and images present in Natural Science textbooks distributed by the Chilean Ministry of Education (MINEDUC). Based on a qualitative, documentary, and descriptive approach, the standardized methodology developed by the Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) is applied, adapted to the Chilean context. The analysis corpus comprises the Physics textbooks for 9th and 10th grades, given their relevance in the teaching of astronomy according to the current curriculum. Preliminary results identify shortcomings in the conceptual precision and in the didactic function of some images, which could reinforce alternative conceptions in students. In conclusion, it is necessary to strengthen the coherence between the curriculum and textbooks, promoting a more equitable astronomical literacy in the Chilean educational system.
