Association between performance in the 30-15 intermittent fitness test and body composition in adult Chilean professional soccer players

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the association between performance in the 30-15 intermittent fitness test (30-15IFT) and body composition in adult Chilean professional soccer players Methods: 54 soccer players belonging to two adult male professional teams of the first division B of Chile. Body composition was evaluated, and muscle mass (MM) and adipose mass (AM) were estimated and normalized by body weight as percentage of muscle mass (PMA) and adipose mass (PMA). Performance in the 30-15IFT was assessed through the final velocity attained (VIFT). The Spearman correlation coefficient (rs) was used to analyze the association. Results: Weak to strong correlations were found between VIFT with PMM (rs=0.34 to 0.72), PMA (rs=-0.68 to -0.27), MA (rs=-0.74 to -0.37) and an unclear and weak correlation with MM (rs=-0.33 to 0.21). Conclusion: Performance in the 30-15IFT test is associated with body composition, specifically with PMM, MA and PMA.
