Synchronous and asynchronous physical education with recycled teaching materials on attitude to the environment in elementary education

Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of a curricular adaptation in Physical Education using recycled material as teaching strategies on primary school students, during the pandemic (COVID-19). The design was quasi-experimental, involving 46 third and fourth grade primary school students, 16 sessions were applied in synchronous and asynchronous modality, adapting didactic tasks with recycled material, before and after they were evaluated with the environmental attitudes scale for children. Through the 3-way mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) in one factor, no significant interaction was found between groups and measurements, nor between groups and sex, however, significant values were observed improving attitudes before and after in the synchronous group (p<0.01). In conclusion, greater effectiveness was observed towards the environmental attitude in synchronous sessions, and overall, more pleasure in caring for the environment, favoring the sustainable development objectives established by the UN.
